FRUSTRATED AND FURIOUS FABRIC FRIDAY!!!

Quilt Routes by Deborah O'Hare

This piece of fabric reflects how I am feeling today. Gloomy and out of kilter.

I want to bring to your attention the new changes in Digital VAT that comes into force on the 1st Jan 2015.

I am arriving late to the party as I only became aware of it this week, but it will effect me as I sell my patterns digitally online. It will also effect anyone that likes to buy digitally because prices will rise to cover the costs involved.

The complicated read can be found here.
However this post describes it all very well.

It impacts on anyone selling digital products to anyone in the E.U.

This has ramifications for a huge number of small micro businesses, some of whom have already decided to stop trading (see this post over at Lily's Quilts) until things become clearer or changed.

Please take the time to sign this Change.org petition if you are in the UK. It only needs a couple of hundred more signatures to to reach the 10,000 mark (make that 100,000) which means they will have to debate one aspect of it in parliament.

If you have taken the time to read this, thank you.

fabric friday- hand printed fabric

Quilt Routes

I pulled my Gelli Arts Plate yesterday and had a bit of a play. As you can see from the shadows in my photos it was a sunny day, nice enough to say out in my shed all morning :D

Quilt Routes

I usually paint onto white cotton but having recently purchased Lynn Krawczyk's Intentional Printing*, I have followed her example and painted onto coloured cotton.

Although I have done lots of printing on fabric before these pieces are definitely influenced by Lynn's work. I have a couple of ideas of what to do with these. Stay tuned to see what I come up with.
*I bought this book on my Kindle.
Anyone else find they are buying even more art/quilting books now that they can be purchased electronically, for a lot less than for the physical book? I know having a book in your hands is much better but it is so easy and instantaneous (and nobody has to know ;)

fabric friday hand printed fabric

Some thing a bit different today. This is fabric prepared for my last Journal Quilt (December) done as part of a challenge for members of the Contemporary Quilt arm of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. The other eleven months can be seen here.

fabric friday and some updates

hand painted fabric @Quilt Routes

Today I am busy putting together some fabric kits for a workshop that I am teaching at Busy Bees tomorrow, so it's a Fabric Friday with a bit of a difference today.
I know that things have been a bit quiet here as I have had a busy few months of teaching, which is wonderful, but it does take it's toll on the ol' blogging.
I do have lots of ideas swirling around and I am looking forward to some down time so that these ideas can sort themselves out and hopefully manifest themselves into some pleasing and interesting posts.
I plan to resume my Alternative Trip Around the Block series. Remember that? Plus a few tutorials that I hope you will like.
I haven't been totally idle as I have been producing my Journal Quilts for the Contemporary Group, making some small stitched pieces and I have been critiquing my working practices when trying to produce an Art Quilt.

Preparations

hand painted fabric by Quilt Routes

It is that time of year again when my thoughts turn towards August and this year's Festival of Quilts.

This will be my third year at the show. I never have enough hand painted fabric. I could always have sold more, a fact for which I am very grateful.

So it is time to put my nose to the grindstone and get painting!!

It will be a busy few months but I hope to share some new designs for art quilts and landscape quilt patterns and what will be a lot of new pieces of painted fabric!
If you don't see me here too often I will be over on Instagram and Facebook. These days I have to confess that I find it so much easier to post a quick photo and then get on with the work!. I will be blogging when time allows :D
