Bird House

Carrying from my last post, when I began designing a bird house I ended up with all these different parts which was really far too complicated.

First step, Simplify it to just the one piece.

Next, mark out the design in pencil.

Paint in the shadows to give a dimensional effect.

For this I used neat paint, mixed with textile medium (or in this case Aloe Vera gel, because at that time I did not possess any textile medium).
The colour was obtained by mixing a small bit of black with the bird house colour.
Adding the medium/gel allows you to work slowly and accurately with the paint and to build up the layers of colour.

To quote a famous Meerkat "Simples"......apologies to non U.K. readers who won't know what I am referring to....but if you are curious look here.

flickr me!

bird house

Still beavering away here, working things out and seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Last week I shared images from a couple of project one of which was this. You might have seen me working on if you came by to my booth at the Festival of Quilts in August.
Next week I will go into more detail of how I approached it. I really enjoyed doing the hand stitching.

This post is really a bit of a practice because after not one but two of my bogging buddies announced that they had run out of image space this week, I thought that I must run out soon.
Didn't think it would be the same week though. Today I got the Whoops! message from Google.
Decided to take the flickr route for a while and see how that works out.
Have a good week end.

Really Off the Wall Friday

There are lots of things going on here at Quilt Routes!

Mainly in my head it has to be said, but I am working on some new designs.

I am not being deliberately secretive but things are not working out to my satisfaction just yet and today I have decided to take a break and do some domestic sewing, finishing off a table runner and place mats that have been sitting around unfinished for quite a while.

What sewing are you doing today?
Linking up with Off The Wall Friday.

Room with a View

Can you guess where I have been?

This should make it clear.

These Postcards from Paris were done a while ago, but I saw plenty to inspire me on this trip.

This was our Room with a View.
