Lavender Fields
Sometimes I like to share how a design has developed.
Here I am going backward because this piece, which began as a demo piece in a workshop,
followed on from this piece, done using my embellishing/needle felting machine,
which is a mini version of this piece,
which is now available as a free download from my Craftsy pattern shop.

hand painted fabric friday -and another blast from the past!
What can I say. The weather is not inclining me to do much fabric painting at the moment.
It is too cold to venture out to my shed and things take so long to dry at the moment.
So today I present to you this Monet inspired trio of fabrics, as in Monet's Water Lilies inspired.
I know that these were painted quite a few years back and I remember them well because they were the first pieces that I sold to a real live person, as opposed to over the internet. I even remember who I sold them to.
When I pull out the paints next I need to do some more Monet inspired pieces!

Modern Frame Log Cabin Block
Continuing with my A.T.A.B!
This block is presented as an easy, straight forward block, using up strips of random width.
It is straight forward, but I definitely have problems keeping things 100% straight.
I decided to repeat the block, but with a little bit of wonk. It took me half the time to complete, but then I enjoy working this way.
The fabric for these were used because they were at hand. They are part of (another) self imposed task to USE STUFF UP!
I know which block I prefer. Now I have to decide how to quilt them.
If you are interested you can find out more about my STUFF UP! here.

Stamped Hexagon Block.
After completing a stenciled hexagon block, I was a bit stuck on what to do next because the next block was a picture block using hexagons. Naturally I wanted to do my own version and not copy the one that Amy Gibson had done for this Craftsy Block of the Month class.
That is until I saw this over at Linecat@Large's blog, and then I knew where to go.
I made myself a hexagon shaped stamp and got to work.
I will admit to doing this in a hurry. Other projects were calling me. I didn't really take the time to think it through fully and just dove straight in and as a result there are bleeds and brush marks and if I was going to repeat this I would not use my go to Pebeo Setacolor paint because even in its' undiluted form, it just wasn't thick enough for the best results here. Or maybe in my haste I just hadn't shaken up the bottle properly before hand, because I have used these paints neat lots of times with much better results.
Not to worry. Stitch can hide all sorts of sins!
I think the "basket" is greatly improved by a complete covering in thread...
...but the flowers were still a bit wishy washy, and put yellow over blue and of course you are going to get green.
Time to bring in my favorite tool for enhancing and improving (i.e. covering up mistakes) my Derwent Inktense pencils.
(I have to say, insert whisper, I am so glad to see the back of this one!)

A Return to the Alternative Trip Around the Block!
If you are a new reader to this blog (Hello and Welcome :D) then you won't be aware of my Alternative Trip Around the Block. I knew it was going to take me a while but I am a bit shocked to find that I began this in 2013.
I am determined to complete it but before I share my latest block, I thought it would be worth a quick round up of what I have done so far.

Oh my ! There are twenty blocks in all I have only completed seven so far!
I did say in my original post that this could take a while.

Here is a sneak peek at the one I am working on at the moment, which is the second of the Hexi blocks.
Stay tuned. I can't guarantee that these blocks will come thick and fast...but they will come...
